Metropolitano Stadium, Madrid: Atlético match, tour and metro access

Updated on October 9, 2026

The Metropolitano stadium, home of Atlético de Madrid, stands in the east of the city on Avenida de Luis Aragonés, near the former La Peineta sports ground. Reopened in September 2017 after its reconstruction, it hosts Atlético's home matches and also big concerts and events. Its commercial name has changed over the years with naming-rights deals; on the ground and on maps, the thing to look for is the Estadio Metropolitano metro station. To see a match, the ticket is bought from the club; outside matches, a stadium tour exists on a schedule that must be checked. This page gives practical pointers with no prices, which the club sets match by match.

Highlights

The ground from outside

The ground from outside

The stadium is recognisable by its façade ring and the large roof covering the stands. On match days, the surroundings fill with red-and-white fans well before kick-off, which makes the journey as interesting as the entrance.

The stands and the pitch

The stands and the pitch

From the stands the view of the pitch is clear. Depending on the ticket or tour, access may include the stand, the dressing rooms or the club's exhibition space: the precise content depends on the package bought and changes from one season to the next.

The atmosphere of an Atlético match

The chants and flags in the popular stands give the evening its character. Even if you do not know the club, the atmosphere of a Liga or European match remains a strong memory of Madrid.

Tips

Match tickets: sold by the club on its official website, match by match, with possible priority for socios; prices depend on the opponent and the stand and are not given here. Keep the ticket downloaded on your phone before approaching the gates. Bulky items (suitcases, pushchairs) are not allowed on the access routes and there is no guaranteed left-luggage: travel light. Do not confuse it with the Bernabéu, Real Madrid's stadium (see Santiago Bernabéu stadium). Atlético left the Vicente Calderón, near the Manzanares, for this stadium: old guides sometimes still say otherwise. To choose between the two clubs and buy, read watching football in Madrid.

How to get there

Address: Avenida de Luis Aragonés, 4, 28022 Madrid. Metro: Estadio Metropolitano (line 7), the option recommended by the club; Las Rosas (line 2) and Canillejas (line 5) also work with a longer walk. The stadium is some distance from the centre: plan the journey from your accommodation and the return after the match (see getting around Madrid).

Opening hours

Best: On a match day
Variable: home matches follow the club's official calendar (day and time confirmed shortly before); stadium tour at slots published by the club, closed on match and event days; check the official website before coming
