Juan Carlos I Park in Madrid: map, gardens and metro access

Updated on October 9, 2026

Juan Carlos I Park (Parque Juan Carlos I) is Madrid's largest modern park: about 160 hectares in the Campo de las Naciones district, near Barajas airport and the exhibition centre. Opened in the 1990s, it combines vast lawns, a lake, an olive grove, open-air sculptures and the Garden of the Three Cultures, dedicated to Spain's Jewish, Arab and Christian traditions. Entry is free. Far from the centre, it makes a half-day outing for running, picnicking or strolling away from the crowds.

Highlights

The big lawns and the lake

The heart of the park is a wide open landscape with a channel and a lake, popular with runners and families at weekends.

The Garden of the Three Cultures

A themed garden paying tribute to the three cultures of medieval Spain and to the 1992 Madrid Peace Conference.

The olive grove

About 2,000 olive trees planted in the park, pleasant to walk through outside summer.

Hours and prices

Free park, open daily: June to September 07:00–01:00; October to May 07:00–23:00, until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays (hours noted in October 2026; the park may partly close during weather alerts).

Practical info

Tips

Bring water and a hat in summer: shade is scarce in the open areas. The park is big enough that a bike or walking shoes help. Combine it with El Capricho Park, more intimate, in the same eastern part of the city. For more ideas see Madrid's most beautiful parks and Madrid by bike. Also read: the Madrid tourist map.
