Madrid Planetarium: shows, prices and opening hours

Updated on October 9, 2026

Madrid Planetarium, opened in 1986 in the Enrique Tierno Galván park (Arganzuela district), is a municipal centre that popularises astronomy. The exhibitions are free to enter; only the domed projection room needs a ticket: €3.60 for adults and €1.65 for ages 2-14 and over 65 (prices seen in October 2026). It is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00-13:45 and 17:00-19:45, and closed on Mondays. It is a cheap, useful outing on a rainy or very hot day, easy to combine with a walk in the park and the Arganzuela district; allow about 1h30 for a show and the exhibitions.

Highlights

The building in Tierno Galván park

The building in Tierno Galván park

The planetarium stands out for its concrete and glass architecture and its dome, in the middle of a large public park. In the evening the lit building stands against the sky, which makes it a pleasant late-day walk.

The projection room

Under the dome, the shows tell the story of the sky, planets, stars or the history of astronomy on a large hemispheric screen. The programme changes through the year: some shows are for children, others for adults. Check the language of the show before buying: most are in Spanish.

The free exhibitions

Four exhibition areas with free access present astronomy and space exploration. You can visit them without a show ticket.

Observations and activities

The centre also runs talks, workshops and sky observations, following a calendar published on its official website. Places are often limited.
