Matadero Madrid is the centre for contemporary creation housed in the former municipal slaughterhouse near Legazpi and the Manzanares. Its brick pavilions host film, theatre, dance, design and visual arts, with a programme that changes throughout the year. You can explore the courtyards and façades free of charge, then choose an exhibition or session. This is not a museum with a permanent collection: the appeal of a visit also depends on the activities scheduled for your day.
Highlights

The brick pavilions
Look at the walls, openings and roofs of the former industrial buildings. Their conversion has preserved the sense of a group of halls rather than turning the site into one single building.

The connection with Madrid Río
The outdoor spaces let you combine a visit with a walk beside the Manzanares. View the bridges and halls from the river to understand their place in the urban landscape.
Cineteca and live performance
Cineteca presents independent and non-fiction cinema; Nave 10 hosts theatre and Centro Danza Matadero dance. Check the programme and book your chosen session: free courtyard access does not include performances.
Temporary exhibitions
Nave 0, Central de Diseño and other spaces offer activities according to their calendars. Madrid Artes Digitales has immersive experiences with separate ticketing: do not confuse them with free exhibitions.

Tips
Outdoor access is free; Nave 0 exhibitions are free subject to capacity, except Madrid Artes Digitales offerings. Cinema, performances and immersive experiences have prices depending on the session (prices checked in October 2026). Locate the hall name before coming; on Mondays, favour the outdoors over an exhibition.
