Madrid's Railway Museum occupies the former Delicias station, inaugurated in 1880 and turned into a museum in 1984. Beneath its large metal roof structure, locomotives and passenger coaches trace the transition from steam to electric and diesel traction. The themed rooms extend the visit with clocks, infrastructure and scale models. This cultural stop in Arganzuela suits train enthusiasts and family outings alike; allow around an hour and a half.
Highlights

The historic station
The iron and glass building is itself part of the museum. From the platforms, look at the hall's height and the structures that sheltered trains and brought light to the circulation areas.

Locomotives and coaches
Compare steam, electric and diesel engines, followed by passenger coaches. The exhibition also shows how comfort and travelling conditions have changed.
The layout and scale models
The Territorio Ferroviario room and scale models bring another dimension to railway history. Visit this section early enough: clearing the room starts 30 minutes before museum closing time.
Clocks and infrastructure
The themed rooms explain the coordination of railway operations and network equipment. They complement the large vehicles even if you are unfamiliar with railway mechanics.
