Which one should you choose?
- You are discovering the city: the "Taste Madrid" evening walk. It mixes tapas and drinks, which costs less than a wine-only tour.
- You want to understand wine: the four-wine tasting with a sommelier. It is short, so easy to fit in before dinner.
- You want a proper meal: the 3.5-hour wine and tapas lunch, with its four wines.
- You travel as a couple or small group and want privacy: the private sommelier walk in Chueca.
- You like views: the rooftop cava option, but only on the 6 pm departure.

Taste Madrid: the evening walk
This is our default pick for a first evening. The offer is run by Intrepid Urban Adventures for a small group, and the listing describes a route through Plaza de la Villa, the outside of San Miguel market and Plaza Mayor. It scores 5 out of 5 from 61 reviews: the volume is modest, but the verdict is unanimous. Prices published by resellers differ from one platform to another; check the final price on the listing for your date. See the offer.
This walk is not a monument visit. To compare the market itself, read San Miguel or San Antón.
A real tasting with a sommelier

The 80-minute offer near Plaza Mayor is the most educational: four Spanish wines, a tapa and an aperitif, with a sommelier. It scores 4.9 out of 5 from 28 reviews and offers a private group. A session of about an hour and a half fits before dinner; it does not replace a meal. See the offer.
Another two-hour tasting offers four wines (a white, a rosé, two reds) and tapas, but it has only 7 reviews (4.4 out of 5): see the listing.
The premium option: sommelier, vermouth and private group
At about $171 per person, the "wine and tapas in historic Madrid" walk is the priciest on this list, but it is presented as a private group visit. It lasts 2 hours in the Chueca district and includes three Spanish wines, a vermouth and tapas. Extra drinks are not included. The guide speaks English or Spanish. See the offer.
A private day to Ribera del Duero and Segovia, of about 10 hours, starts around $392: see the offer.
Madrid wines: what you will taste
Wines from the region carry the "Vinos de Madrid" designation, which has four subzones: Arganda, Navalcarnero, San Martín de Valdeiglesias and, since 2019, El Molar. The Community of Madrid publishes the designation's specification; its official pages are the source to check for up-to-date figures. A tasting is not limited to these wines: many offers include wines from other Spanish regions, and vermouth, the typical drink of the city's bars, often comes with the first tapa.

Before you book
- Age. In Spain, alcohol is not served to minors: the Community of Madrid sets the minimum age at 18. Ask the organiser about its rule for teenagers.
- Times. Madrileños dine late (see meal times). A walk starting at 6 pm replaces an early dinner, not a 9 pm one.
- Allergies and diets. Mention gluten, milk, nuts, fish or vegetarian needs before booking and ask for a written answer.
- Alcohol in the street. Tastings take place in bars or rooms; for the rules on public roads, see alcohol in the street in Madrid.
- Cancellation. Terms vary from one listing to another: read the cancellation limit before paying.
Frequently asked questions
How old do you have to be?
The Community of Madrid bans the sale of alcohol to under-18s. Each listing may set its own minimum age; check it before booking with teenagers.
Can I book if I am vegetarian or allergic?
Often yes, but tell the organiser before the date. Cured meats and cheeses dominate the tapas: insist on a written confirmation.
What time should I plan the walk?
A late-afternoon departure combines well with dinner at 9 or 10 pm. A 6 pm departure suits travellers who want to eat early.
Should I choose a wine tasting or a food tour?
If you want to try several dishes, a food tour is more complete: see food tours and cooking classes. If you want to learn to recognise wines, choose the sommelier tasting.
Where should I eat before or after?
Our guide where to eat in Madrid suggests places by district.
