West of the centre, Parque del Oeste links the walks around Moncloa with the gardens near the Temple of Debod. Its slopes, trees and winding paths give it the feel of a landscape garden rather than a planted city square. The Ramón Ortiz Rose Garden, in the southern part, is worth a separate visit during the flowering season. Both park and rose garden are free, but the roses have their own opening hours.
Highlights

Ramón Ortiz Rose Garden
Beds of different rose varieties line orderly paths. Come in spring to enjoy the blooms and keep out of the beds: the garden also hosts a competition for new roses.

The rose garden paths
Walk through the garden rather than stopping at the entrance. The views between the plantings contrast with the winding, sloping layout of the wider park.
