Liria Palace in Madrid: the Alba collection and visiting tips

Updated on October 5, 2026

Liria Palace is the Madrid residence of the House of Alba, on Calle Princesa near Plaza de España. Behind its Neoclassical façade, visitors can explore some of the state rooms and a private collection featuring Goya, Titian and Velázquez. Artworks, furniture and the library tell a family story as well as a history of art. Choose your ticket type ahead of time: a self-guided visit with a downloadable audio guide or a guided tour, depending on the options available.

Highlights

The Neoclassical façade

The Neoclassical façade

This eighteenth-century palace combines a long, symmetrical frontage with a garden separating it from busy Princesa. Louis Guilbert and Ventura Rodríguez both contributed to its design. The building was rebuilt after the fire of 1936, so its present rooms are not interiors preserved intact since its foundation.

Portraits of the House of Alba

Goya's Duchess of Alba in White is one of the collection's signature works. It offers a chance to compare his portrayal of an aristocrat with the royal portraits at the Prado. The route and displays may change; individual works may be on loan.

The library

Early books and historical documents complement the paintings. This room adds another dimension to the visit: a great family's collections extend beyond pictures. Access to particular spaces depends on your ticket type.
