Gran Vía hotels: 5 picks ranked by budget

Indicative double-room prices, extras not included, they vary a lot by date (not checked on the hotels' own sites).

Metro and walking access

Four stations serve Gran Vía: Plaza de España (lines 3 and 10), Santo Domingo (2), Callao (3 and 5) and Gran Vía (1 and 5). The avenue is about 1.3 km long: Sol is 5-10 minutes on foot from Callao, the Royal Palace 15 minutes from Santo Domingo.

Noise, safety and neighbourhood

Gran Vía is busy day and night: traffic, theatres, bars and tourists. Ask for an inner-courtyard or high-floor room. The area is safe but pickpockets are common (Callao, Sol, metro): keep bag and phone in front of you.

Our pick

For a first stay on a mid-range budget, the Riu Plaza España (rooftop pool in season) or the Dear Hotel. To spend less: a hostal on an upper floor. Compare with our guides to the best hotels in Madrid by budget and where to stay in Madrid.
