Fundación Mapfre in Madrid: Sala Recoletos, exhibitions, opening hours and free entry
The Fundación Mapfre shows painting and photography in the Sala Recoletos, a handsome building on the Paseo de Recoletos, between Cibeles and Plaza de Colón. Its temporary exhibitions, often devoted to major names in modern art or photography, change several times a year. The foundation used to have a second venue, the Sala Bárbara de Braganza, but it has closed for good: only the Sala Recoletos remains today. Allow one to one and a half hours for the current exhibitions, with a free audio guide included in the ticket.
Highlights

The Sala Recoletos
The building at 23 Paseo de Recoletos houses the exhibitions on several floors. Banners on the façade announce the current show.
The autumn 2026 exhibitions
From 24 September 2026 to 10 January 2027: a retrospective of the American photographer Minor White, "La otra orilla de la vanguardia" (the avant-garde and works by psychiatric patients, based on Hans Prinzhorn's 1922 book) and an exhibition on women artists and Pre-Raphaelitism (1850-1914).
The free audio guide
It comes with every individual ticket (headphones cost €1 extra). Audio guides with audio description and sign-language tours are available.
A changing programme
Exhibitions are renewed several times a year: check the foundation's website before you come, as the dates above only hold until January 2027.
