The Pontifical Basilica of San Miguel, on calle de San Justo, is an 18th-century Baroque church a short walk from the Plaza Mayor. Its convex façade, rare in Madrid, makes it one of the most photographed religious buildings in Habsburg Madrid. Entry is free. Services take priority over sightseeing, so come outside Mass.
Highlights

The convex façade
It curves out towards the street and is the church's most recognisable feature. Look at it head-on, then from the side to feel the curve.

Italian Baroque
Completed in 1754, the church draws on Italian models and was first called the church of Saints Justus and Pastor. Explore the interior quietly, away from services.
Calle de San Justo
The basilica faces calle de San Justo, which runs down towards La Latina. A good excuse to keep walking.
The nearby market
The San Miguel market is close by and pairs well with the visit for a food break.
