Hours: Monday and Wednesday to Saturday 10:00 to 21:00, closed on Tuesday; for Sunday the site shows the marks 10:00, 12:30 and 14:30 without labelling them, so check them before you come (our attraction page gives opening at 10:00, free entry 12:30 to 14:30, closing at 14:30). Free days for everyone: 18 April, 18 and 22 May, 12 October, 6 December. Galleries empty 15 minutes before closing. Keep to the time shown on your ticket.
Guernica: where, and how to avoid the crowd
The sources we read place Guernica in room 206 on the second floor of the Sabatini building (the official site does not give the room). It is the busiest room, and photos are reported to be banned there. To see it calmly, come at opening on a weekday rather than during the free hours.
Official ticket, Tiqets or free hours?
The free hours save EUR 12, at the price of the crowd, especially on Saturday and Sunday. The Tiqets ticket is not cheaper than the official one: it guarantees your entry time. Compare the price for your day and read the cancellation terms. Full page: Reina Sofía Museum.
Prado or Reina Sofía?
The Reina Sofía is the modern and contemporary art museum (Picasso, Dalí, Miró); the Prado holds older art. To choose, read Prado or Reina Sofía and the Paseo del Arte. Allow two hours for the essentials.
When a guided tour is worth it
The Reina Sofía is large and contemporary art needs explaining. A guide gives Guernica its context, but we did not read a specific offer to compare: for now, look at the Prado tours in Prado guided tour: which offer.
