| Petit Palace Santa Bárbara | 110-180 € | 4-star hotel on plaza de Santa Bárbara, between Malasaña and Chamberí: quieter, Alonso Martínez metro |
| Tourist apartments | 90-200 € | Long stay or group: insist on the displayed registration number and never pay outside the platform |
Indicative prices per double room or per apartment, very variable by date and not checked on the hotels' own sites.
Metro and access
Malasaña is served by Tribunal (lines 1 and 10), Noviciado (line 2), San Bernardo (lines 2 and 4) and Bilbao (lines 1 and 4). Gran Vía and Sol are 10 minutes on foot. For lines and tickets, see our guide to getting around Madrid and our page on the Malasaña district.
Noise, nightlife and safety
The bars of plaza del Dos de Mayo and calles Velarde and Pez are lively until late, especially Thursday to Saturday: ask for a courtyard or high-floor room. The district is safe, but pickpockets work near Fuencarral and Gran Vía. See also Madrid by night.
Our pick
To sleep in the district on a small budget: a well-rated courtyard hostal. For more quiet: the Petit Palace Santa Bárbara. For value: the Praktik Metropol. For food, see where to eat in Malasaña; other areas in where to stay in Madrid.
