Choose for your departure, not just the price
Ask your accommodation first whether it keeps luggage before check-in or after check-out, and on what terms. If you will be passing it again, this avoids a detour. If you are leaving Madrid from another part of the city, choose storage on your route to the station or terminal instead. A luggage service is useful only if collection fits into your day.
Three formats are common: a locker rented by size, storage charged per bag at a partner business, and a staffed left-luggage office. For a family, a large locker may be worthwhile if everything fits; for an oversized suitcase, a staffed deposit may work better. Compare usable dimensions rather than just photographs.
| Your situation | Area to prioritise | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Train from Atocha | Streets near your station entrance | External address and walking time |
| Train from Chamartín | Storage near the station or on your route | Actual access from platforms and works |
| Last walk around Sol | Sol, Aduana or nearby streets | Return towards your transport |
| Exploring the old centre | Plaza Mayor and Ópera | Latest collection time |
| Flight after a stopover | The relevant Barajas terminal | Terminal, hours and price per bag |
| Large suitcase or group | Suitable deposit or locker | Capacity and total price |
Prices checked in October 2026: compare urban services in the booking process for your exact size, address and duration; one locker's price does not necessarily cover all your luggage.
Atocha: storage near the station
Atocha station includes several railway access points. “Atocha” in a storage business's name does not mean it is inside the station or beside your platform. Locate the storage entrance, then the entrance for your train. Do not rely only on a walking time calculated from a different station entrance.
Stow Your Bags, Calle del General Lacy, 4, 28045 Madrid, is outside the station. The operator lists daily opening from 07:00 to 23:00. Prices depend on the locker and time selected; a starting price is not presented here as a full-day rate. Other networks, including Bounce and Lock Here Now, are listed around Atocha by the tourist office.
Once your booking is confirmed, save the exact address and collection code. On arrival, check that everything fits before closing the locker and photograph its number if that helps you find it again. At storage points inside shops, confirm the partner's closing time even when the booking platform is available around the clock.
Chamartín: plan access and the return journey
For a departure from Madrid Chamartín-Clara Campoamor, choose a service whose booking specifies the address and access arrangements. The tourist office lists Lock Here Now among local options. This does not confirm a public left-luggage office inside the station: check the actual drop-off point offered for your date.
The distance to a station building is not the distance to its boarding lounge. Allow time to collect bags, reach your train entrance and pass any checks. If you have spent the day in the centre, a last detour to a shop can significantly alter your journey. Our station guide helps distinguish departures from Atocha and Chamartín.
Sol, Plaza Mayor and Gran Vía: store your bags and walk

Around Puerta del Sol, Stow Your Bags lists a deposit at Calle de la Aduana, 7, 28013 Madrid. Near Plaza Mayor, another address is Calle Costanilla de Santiago, 2, 28013 Madrid. Both open daily from 07:00 to 23:00 according to the operator. Book your chosen premises: a Sol reservation is not automatically valid at another branch of the same network.
These areas suit a walk towards the Royal Palace, provided you return for your bags before leaving. For Gran Vía or Plaza de España, select an address that fits your route rather than storage on the opposite side of the centre. The tourist office lists several options around Callao and Plaza de España.
Barajas: offices, hours and prices
The airport provides left-luggage offices in T1, T2 and T4. Aena publishes opening hours of 05:00–23:00 for T1 and T4, and 07:00–22:00 for T2. Check the terminal map before travelling: your departure terminal, arrival point and storage location are not always in the same place. Do not confuse a public luggage service with the baggage reclaim hall after a flight.
| Storage period | Standard bag | Special bag |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 2 hours | €10 per bag | €18 per bag |
| Up to 24 hours | €17 per bag | €25 per bag |
| Up to 48 hours | €34 per bag | €50 per bag |
| Up to 72 hours | €51 per bag | €75 per bag |
Prices checked in October 2026 on Aena. A bag is special when width + length + height exceeds 210 cm. Part periods are charged as full periods. After 72 hours, each additional day or part-day adds €17 for a standard bag or €25 for a special bag. Storage includes an X-ray security check.
For a stopover, terminal storage can save you carrying suitcases into the city, but you must return before closing. Calculate transport, collection and flight formalities separately. If staying overnight in Madrid and leaving the next day, central storage or your accommodation may fit the route better; compare total costs and constraints rather than the headline price alone.
City prices, insurance and what to keep with you
A “from” price may cover a short period or the smallest locker. Run a quote for your actual arrival and departure, then check the total before paying. Also find out whether reopening a locker ends the booking, whether you can extend storage and how to get help if a code fails. Conditions depend on your chosen service.
Keep your passport, tickets, essential medication and payment methods with you. Photograph the suitcase's exterior condition if handing it to someone else. An insurance statement is not unlimited cover: read the exclusions, limits and claim process in your reservation. Avoid leaving documents in a suitcase when you will need those documents to retrieve it.
A walk while your bags are stored

From the Atocha area, a short outing towards Moyano offers a walk without multiple transport journeys. From Sol, stay around the square, Plaza Mayor and nearby streets if time is tight. A timed-ticket visit must not make collection impossible: treat your return to storage as the day's final fixed appointment.
Before leaving the deposit, check your phone, battery, confirmation and assistance details. Allow some time for a stubborn locker or a queue at the counter. With a train or flight, a buffer helps absorb a practical problem; it does not replace your carrier's required arrival times.
