From early to mid-August, three neighbourhood festivals follow one another in central Madrid: San Cayetano, San Lorenzo and the Virgen de la Paloma. Streets in Embajadores, Lavapiés and La Latina host decorations, dancing, concerts and family activities. Chotis dancing and traditional chulapo outfits share the programme with contemporary music; religious ceremonies have a separate schedule. In 2026, San Cayetano ran from 4 to 7 August, San Lorenzo from 8 to 11 August and the Paloma from 13 to 16 August. As of 4 October 2026, the detailed 2027 programme has not yet been announced.
Highlights

The Virgen de la Paloma
The Virgin's feast day is 15 August. The venerated image is a painting: the photograph shows it being carried in procession during an earlier edition. Check the year's religious schedule before heading to the church area.

La Latina's verbenas
Las Vistillas gardens and Plaza de la Paja are among the Paloma's venues. Nearby Cava Baja is handy for dinner afterwards, but the street pictured is not a permanent concert venue.
San Cayetano and San Lorenzo
These two festivals precede the Paloma: the first takes place around the Rastro and Embajadores, the second in Lavapiés. Their programmes combine games, music and neighbourhood activities. Choose your evening by venue and activity rather than the festival's name alone.

Tips
Municipal activities advertised with free admission cost nothing, as checked in October 2026; food and drinks are extra. Check the Centro district's annual festival programme: performers, stages and times change. Arrive on foot or by Metro and agree on a meeting point away from the crowds. Keep building entrances and passageways clear, and respect residents' sleep when leaving concerts.
How to get there
