Our advice
Take the train and book ahead: the low fares from low-cost operators disappear fast. Departure is usually from Atocha; see Madrid's stations. A car only makes sense for getting around the coast afterwards: compare offers at Madrid airport or in Alicante and check one-way drop-off fees.
Where to stay in Alicante
